After two years, our boat, Take Five, has been on jack stands in a heated building located in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, waiting for her next owner. While a vessel as large and as complex as her is inherently more challenging to sell, I feel that the uncertainty of 2020 with COVID-19 made matters even worse.

While I am confident she will sell soon, I can’t justify keeping her in storage for another boating season. My rationale for this decision is twofold. First, I am concerned about keeping such a complex vessel in storage without routine care and maintenance. The engines are massive Detroit 8V92s at 435 HP each, and I worry about them sitting without being run for long periods. Second, I have missed my time on the water and all the joy I have while boating! It’s time to take advantage of this opportunity, even if it may be short-lived.

One change for us will be that we will be keeping her in Sturgeon Bay and spending our weekends and some week-long vacations there instead of having her in Sheboygan as I have over the last several years. I started with keeping her in Door County for many years when my children were much younger, and we always enjoyed our time there. It will be an absolute joy for me to revisit and experience Door County with Natalie and her children this season.
