I have been neglecting writing for a while after all the recent turmoil and honestly just haven’t felt like updating. Our lives are starting to normalize a little after the sudden loss of Zed and we are encouraged by the good news of several effective vaccines on the horizon. Hopefully, 2021 will be a turning point in this pandemic and we will soon see improvements in our economy and abilities to socialize with other people.
One place that has been hit hard by the pandemic is the Sheboygan Yacht Club. I recently joined the club in January of this year and am currently nearly one year into my two-year apprenticeship. One of the requirements for gaining full membership into the club has been to do volunteer service at the club and attend a certain number of membership meetings over the two year period. Unfortunately, the club has struggled to stay open with COVID-19 and the membership meetings are closed to all but a few members. Apprentices are excluded for now.
I am trying my best to volunteer at the club, but between work and the limited opportunities, it has been personally difficult. Natalie and the kids took a quick trip to Houston over Thanksgiving and I stayed home with Willow and had plenty of time to volunteer. Lucky for me, they needed help with Christmas decorating this last Saturday and I was more than happy to get out of the house and help out. I was delegated as the guy that had to go into the attic to get all the decorations down and spent a lot of my time working on putting up garland and lights on the outside deck. I couldn’t have asked for a better day with the weather being mild and the skies clear. I had a great time and even took a few pictures during the course of the day. No surprise there!
I also found a sad looking mannequin in the attic on the floor that everyone had forgotten about over the years and decided to hand her down to be added to the holiday decorating festivities. She was a huge success and now stands overlooking the bar every evening!
