This year, Father’s Day was very low key and just the way I like it! The morning at our Sheboygan home was very uneventful, but we were invited to head to our Steinthal place for an early dinner with my three boys, Luke, Noah, and Lincoln. I was looking forward to Luke’s amazing vegan cooking at the lodge and planned to use the time to prepare the MGB for some summer driving. It has been over a year since I removed it from storage at Steinthal and I new there would be something that needed to be tweaked before getting it out on the road.
Prior to our arrival at Steinthal, we decided to take a short detour with the dogs to Elkhart Lake so we could enjoy a beer at the Switch Gear Brewing Company courtesy of a gift card provided to me by the staff at the Fond du Lac clinic.
It was a perfect opportunity to enjoy the sun, beer and all the various collectible cars and motorcycles that are drawn to Elkhart Lake thanks to Road America and the races. It just happened to be a race weekend and there were plenty of opportunities to see some very nice vehicles!
We eventually continued our journey north to Steinthal where we enjoyed the company of Luke, Noah, and Lincoln before dinner. The highlight of the dinner occurred when I was removing a small empty wasp nest from the outdoor umbrella over the table just as we were all sitting down. I accidentally knocked it down and it landed in the back of Lincoln’s hooded sweatshirt resulting in a very frantic and startled Lincoln jumping out of his chair and running away with flailing arms while attempting to remove it (thinking it was full of wasps — it wasn’t). I felt horrible about the incident, but it gave the rest of the crowd a very entertaining spectacle to discuss after things eventually settled down.
Dinner was fantastic and a special thanks goes to Lukas for his cooking abilities!
Afterwards, I focused my time on the MGB; charging the batteries, checking the fluid levels and getting it ready for it’s maiden trip of the year. It was running great while at idle, but as Lincoln and I started to drive it south on Steinthal Road, it would missfire the entire time making it impossible to get it up to speed for the 30 minute drive. We turned it around and headed back to Steinthal where Natalie and the dog’s were ready to take us home in case of such an event ( yes, we planned for this possibility).
I’m fairly certain I just need to replace the spark plugs and we should be back in action. In the meantime we all settled into the truck for the drive back to Sheboygan. Lincoln wasn’t feeling the greatest after having his wisdom teeth pulled a week ago and he needed a ride back into Sheboygan with us. I gave him the front passenger seat in the truck and took up the task of sitting in the back with the dogs for the drive. The dogs were thrilled despite the cramped quarters.
