Chihuly’s Weidner Center Chandelier, Green Bay, WI. |
Had the great joy of enjoying the awe-inspiring 9th Symphony at The Weidner Center in Green Bay on Saturday as a gift! While this has long been a personal favorite since college and after listening to it countless times since then, I have never had the pleasure of actually hearing it live. The GBSO is a fantastic organization and along with over 200 voices singing the “Ode to Joy” refrain in the final movement, I couldn’t have been more impressed. I left the packed Weidner Center that evening with goose bumps!
I also caught a picture of the Weidner Center 12 foot long Chandelier during intermission.
Created by artist Dale Chihuly in Seattle, Washington, the colors and shape of the chandelier were designed to compliment the two dramatic Wisconsin Hardwoods oil paintings, by artist Rodger Bechtold, that hang on either end of the Weidner Center’s Grand Foyer. The Weidner Center Chandelier consists of more than 450 individual hand-blown pieces of glass configured onto a steel armature. We are so fortunate to have such a great organization and venue so close!
