The new Lodge at Steinthal Webpage is active!  I still need to work on content, but the basics are up and it seems to be working fine.  At this point, gathering more information about the communities and adding more visual content will be the plan.

I am always a little amazed at how people feel about staying at The Lodge.  Since this is my home, I tend to have a different perspective about it than the guests do.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my home and I believe my children also enjoy the benefits of living where we do.  Personally, the beauty and solitude help to keep me grounded especially after a long day of work.  After spending enough time living in Chicago and other more urban environments, I completely understand the desire to get away from it all.  Reading a review like this allows me to reflect on how fortunate I am to have a place like this that I am not only able to enjoy myself, but also to share with others.  I am very grateful indeed!

My husband and I live in Chicago but try to get out of the city – with our two dogs – for the holidays. We rented the Lodge for Christmas week this year with a couple of friends and had such an amazing experience that we don’t want to leave! We’ve rented through VRBO many times and have got used to some owners “over-promising” about their properties. This was the first time our experience WAY exceeded our expectations. The house is awesome, and the setting is just beautiful. (Dan, the owner, thoughtfully arranged to have snow already on the ground when we got here so we could have a white Christmas.) As some of the other reviewers have noted, the kitchen has *really* nice appliances and was well-stocked, which the cooks in our group very much appreciated. Dan provided more than enough firewood, so we could keep the fireplace going all day – while we pretty much just sat in the great room, taking in the beautiful view through the floor-to-ceiling windows. (I would like to go on record as voting against putting a TV there, by the way; that room is perfect the way it is and I think adding a TV would just detract from how lovely it is.) And as if the property itself wasn’t fantastic enough, so was Dan, who could not have been more considerate or helpful. (After his second or third conversation with Dan, my husband said, “Nicest guy. Ever.”) We (and the pups) can’t wait to return to the Lodge!
