I finally had some time to work on the hive and was planning to harvest the honey and start preparing for the winter. Unfortunately, this morning I realized something wasn’t right and I sensed they were swarming. I broke open the hive to see and there was no queen. From the looks of the comb, it has probably been a month since the hive has been queenless. Unfortunately, the only way to remedy this would be to requeen the hive and after a lot of research, I am unable to find a queen. So the hive won’t survive the winter and I will have to start anew next spring. I was able to harvest about 2.5 gallons of honey from the hive and Kameryn and I spent the rest of the day uncapping the frames and spinning them in the extractor.
