While the Chinese cuisine did not encourage any gastronomic gorges from the Peterson clan, we did enjoy these visual gorges. While the cliffs are currently dramatic, it is strange to think that they will be quite different in a few months as they flood the Yangze River and the water level rises. The Three Gorges Dam will be completed in 2009 resulting in 1.2 million displaced residents along the river. Most interesting were the hanging coffins from the cliffs. These are leftover from the Bo people, an ethnic minority in Southwestern China.
The hanging coffin was the most widespread form of burial in ancient southwest China. However, the practice ended with the mysterious disappearance of the Bo People.
