Bottled homemade Mead – Ready for consumption

Spent the weekend with Alex and Ashley while enjoying some hard hitting, fast-paced hockey over the weekend.  While enjoying a couple of scotch ales with the two brew masters and local hops farmers, they discussed their desire to expand their already impressive selection of various fermented beverages with mead.

Mead, also called honey wine, is an alcoholic beverage that is produced by fermenting a solution of honey and water. It may also be produced by fermenting a solution of water and honey with grain mash, which is strained after fermentation. Depending on local traditions and specific recipes, it may be flavored with spices, fruit, or hops. Mead is known from many sources of ancient history throughout Europe, Africa and Asia, and it can be regarded as the ancestor of all fermented drinks.  Having never even tasted Mead I have to admit it doesn’t sound too appetizing, but I am keeping an open mind and a cleansed palate and I am thoroughly looking forward to providing them with the necessary honey for their ventures… or adventures…  To be continued I am sure…
